Step By Step Instructions To Effectively Use A Clay Bar:
-
Wash and dry your car: Start by washing your car to remove any loose dirt and debris. Then dry it completely with a clean microfiber towel.
-
Apply lubricant: Spray a lubricant, such as a quick detailer or Waterless Wash lubricant, onto a small area of the car. This will help the clay bar glide smoothly over the surface and prevent it from scratching the paint.
-
Knead the clay bar: Take a small piece of the clay bar and knead it in your hand until it's pliable and flat. Flatten it into a small pancake shape.
-
Rub the clay bar: Gently rub the clay bar over the lubricated surface using light to medium pressure. Use back-and-forth or circular motions, but don't apply too much pressure, as this could scratch the paint. You should feel the clay bar pulling out contaminants from the surface.
-
Check the clay bar: After a few passes, check the clay bar for contaminants. If you see dirt or debris on the clay, fold it over to expose a clean surface and continue to rub.
-
Wipe the surface: Once you've finished using the clay bar on the small area, wipe the surface with a clean microfiber towel to remove any excess lubricant and residue.
-
Repeat: Move on to the next small area and repeat the process until you've clayed the entire car.
-
Finish up: Once you've finished claying your car, you may want to apply a wax or sealant to protect the paint.
Remember to always use a lubricant when using a clay bar and avoid using it on a heavily contaminated surface, as this could scratch the paint. It's also important to knead and reshape the clay bar frequently to expose a clean surface.
